In a last meeting at DIN, another big hurdle towards free colour communication was taken: The last open points of DIN SPEC 16699 "Open Colour Communication" were discussed and approved. All that is now missing is the English version and the final formatting and approval by DIN.
Update November 2018: The DIN SPEC 16699 is now available for free download.
In DIN SPEC 16699 we describe a sensible procedure of colour communication based on open and freely available standards (e.g. CIELAB, HLC, ICC and CXF file format). It is about mathematical colour models, sensibly produced colour samples that can be used in practice, as well as exact spectral data as the basis of the colour formulation at the paint manufacturer. If our DIN SPEC is widely used, it will be like a revolution in the colour sector, because at the moment people rely in the above areas on commercial standards and colour collections that are not calculable in themselves and hardly compatible with each other.
