Create media-neutral, cross-media logos

How can you create media-neutral logos in Illustrator CC and convert them to PDF/X when exporting and convert the colours to CMYK? We show a way using sRGB colour. This way, files can be used multiple times (internet, print, advertising technology).

  1. I think that the two shades of green (sRGB and x1a CMYK) differ too much from each other for a logo. It would be more interesting to know how to choose colours that are consistent in different media. In other words, truly media-neutral.

  2. Hello Carsten

This would then have to be assessed in printing, because the substrate adds to the colour mixing. An exact match between additive and subtractive colour mixing is very difficult to achieve. Here we should speak of an approximation that is as exact as possible. In addition, it must be possible to reproduce the colour in both gamuts.

If you go to different editions, the substrate must be included in addition to the output device. If a service provider has measured this and adjusted it in a profile, this is, in my opinion, the best possible way. If generic profiles are used for all editions, this may not produce the same result.

I give sRGB as a recommendation and compare the colours with PSOcoated to see if they can be achieved. All specifications in CMYK are, in my view, clearly adapted to a process and substrate.

    Friendly kisses
    Peter
