The free layout software Scribus remains a pioneer in the field of colour. In the latest version 1.5.4, spectral colour lists can be imported in CxF format. Spectral data is probably the future of colour definition - it is the only way to fully describe a colour independently of light and observer. Lab colour values, on the other hand, are device-neutral but only valid for a specific type of light.
In addition, colour management has been further enhanced and Scribus now shows with exclamation marks if colours are outside the set print gamut.
