Scribus - Christoph Schäfer
Scribus is a powerful and versatile desktop publishing programme developed since 2001 by a group of programmers from all over the world, but mostly in Europe. It is available free of charge under the General Public Licence both in source code and binary format for all common and also some exotic platforms.
In addition to the usual DTP functions, its strengths include high reliability in PDF output, numerous import and export filters and additional PDF features such as presentations, forms or 3D PDF.
Scribus has played a pioneering role in some areas. It was the first DTP program to support the demanding PDF/X-3 printing standard and is still the only software of its kind to offer both the LAB and HLC colour models in its colour dialogues. Scribus is also the only program to integrate the „Open Colour Systems Collection“ and other commercial and institutional colour palettes.
The Scribus project and Holger Everding and dtp studio oldenburg had been working together in a spirit of trust for years before the association freieFarbe e.V. was founded. The „Open Colour Systems Collection“ is a result of this cooperation. Today, Scribus is a member of the association.
