Participation in a technical committee of the CIE

Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage

We have been accepted into a working group of the CIE (Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage, publisher of the CIELAB standard). It is the Technical Committee 8-13 „Colour Gamuts for Output Media“. Its task is: „To study and recommend methods for computing and communicating colour gamuts for output colour reproduction media.“

The idea to collaborate came up during the work on our latest project: the HLC atlas. This shows the colour spaces of different output situations (FOGRA39, sRGB, Epson x900) as CIELab polar coordinates. For this, the gamuts have to be determined - we create bitmaps from HLC colour fields of the entire CIELAB colour space and cut out the gamuts in Photoshop - maybe our method is even interesting for the CIE?

We hope that our participation in this renowned organisation will provide us with important contacts and a boost for the freieFarbe idea.

The HLC Atlas will soon be available for download on the fF website.
